Madrid (Spain)

Madrid, the capital and largest city of Spain, has about 3.5 million residents and almost 7 million in the metropolitan area. Madrid is committed to fostering sustainable mobility and especially micromobility as one of the main pillars of the Madrid 360 Environmental Sustainability Strategy.
Madrid has explored different approaches to shared micromobility: no restrictions, authorisation of three micromobility operators, and no shared micromobility operators. Shared micromobility is currently offered only by Madrid’s public transport operator EMT Madrid through the BiciMAD system that manages shared e-bikes. The system has grown to reach all 21 districts of the city and has witnessed important improvements of bikes, stations and associated services (apps, payment methods, etc.).
