Hamburg integrates bike-sharing into its mobility app

Hamburg has integrated its StadtRAD public bike-sharing scheme into the hvv switch mobility app, enabling users to locate, book and unlock shared bicycles through the same platform used for public transport, car-sharing, ride-pooling and e-scooters. The move brings around 4,300 bicycles at almost 360 stations into the city’s Mobility-as-a-Service (MaaS) ecosystem through a single application.

The integration is intended to simplify multimodal journeys by allowing users to access multiple transport options through a single account. In addition to bike-sharing, the hvv switch app already combines buses, trains, car-sharing, ride-pooling and e-scooters.

Hamburg’s Senator for Transport and Mobility Transition, Anjes Tjarks, described the integration as another important step on the road to connected mobility. “Whether for the daily commute, a spontaneous trip or the last mile, switching between different modes of transport is now even easier. Simplifications like these encourage more people to leave their cars behind and make greater use of sustainable mobility options,” she said.

The integration also marks the first time StadtRAD bicycles can be hired directly through a third-party mobility platform, removing the need for a separate registration while retaining access to the scheme’s existing pricing structure.
