Düsseldorf opens 300th station for micromobility

The City of Düsseldorf has opened its 300th sharing station, marking a milestone in the expansion of its network for shared bicycles and e-scooters. Developed by the city together with Connected Mobility Düsseldorf GmbH (CMD), the stations provide designated, digitally managed parking areas that support shared micromobility while improving first- and last-mile connections to public transport.

CMD said the continued expansion has been guided by operational data and close collaboration with operators.

Dr David Rüdiger, Managing Director of CMD, said: “With the further expansion of stations – particularly in the outer districts and at public transport hubs – we are creating a citywide network that makes more destinations accessible without the need for a private car.”

The sharing station network has tripled in size since the 100th station opened in 2023. Düsseldorf plans to expand the system to around 600 stations by 2030, with new locations planned at transport interchanges, neighbourhood centres and other key destinations across the city.

Using GPS technology, shared vehicles can only be parked at designated stations, helping to improve vehicle availability and create a more orderly streetscape. According to Cornelia Zuschke, Düsseldorf’s Commissioner for Planning, Building, Housing, Real Estate and Mobility, the network forms a key part of Düsseldorf’s broader strategy to integrate shared micromobility into its transport system and encourage more sustainable urban travel.
